The Grand Jury is NYF’s front line in selecting the World’s Best Advertising®. These award-winning creatives evaluate NYF’s entries from over 100 countries worldwide and determine which creative campaign will move on to the medal round. Not an easy task. It takes experience, brilliant creative chops, and dedication to their craft.

NYF’s Grand Jury of 300+ creatives are one of the most diverse juries on the planet, with advertising creatives from over 50 countries around the globe, this jury is a powerhouse of innovation and creativity.

2018 Grand Jury member, Paruj Daorai, Executive Creative Director for Leo Burnett Thailand began his career in advertising in Bangkok as a copywriter, after 10 months, he realized that his passion was in art directing. He left Bangkok for the US and earned his degree in graphic design followed by stints at an ad agency and a design firm.

Phase Two of his career as an art director began at D’Arcy (DMB&B).  While at Lowe, Bangkok Paruj served as a creative director before joining Ogilvy & Mather, Bangkok.  Throughout his career he’s worked on many international brands such as Saab, Chevrolet, Mercedes-Benz, MG,Samsung, P&G, Unilever, Coke,Fanta, JackDaniel's and Telenor.  His creative work has earned him accolades at some of the world’s top creative competitions including: at Cannes Lions, Spikes Asia, Asia Pacific AdFest, Clio Awards, London international Awards and AdStar 

On Judging: 

New York Festivals: What do you expect to learn this year from judging and what do you hope to bring back to your creative team?

New York Festivals: If you were to participate on the Grand Jury ten or fifteen years from now, what changes would you expect to see regarding the work?

Paruj Daorai: Beyond my imagination

New York Festivals: What are your personal criteria for choosing award-winning work? 

Paruj Daorai: Makes me envy. Inspires me. Pushes the industry forward.

New York Festivals: When judging, what trends do you hope will fade away, and what “old school” trends do you hope will make a resurgence?

Paruj Daorai: Technology just for a ‘WOW’ execution will fade away.
& Work that brings people together will never die.

Paruj Daorai: Must trigger action.

New York Festivals: What was the first ad you saw that made you say “wow!” and got you on the track to a career in advertising?

Paruj Daorai: Sadly, lots of client-agency relationships now are based on ‘fear’…
