NYF’s powerhouse Grand Jury represents the most diverse brain trust of prominent advertising creatives from 50 countries around the globe. This esteemed peer-nominated panel provides a 360-degree creative view of the advertising world today.

The 2018 Grand Jury is comprised of Chief Creative Officers, Executive Creative Directors, Creative Directors, Art Directors, Copywriters, Executive Producers and Marketing/PR pro’s all playing a pivotal role in selecting the World’s Best Advertising® winners.

2018 Grand Jury member, Johannes Krempl, Owner/Creative for Glow Germany studied communication-design in Wuerzburg. According to Johannes, his portfolio was so bad, Scholz & Friends hired him as a copywriter. He also worked at numerous global agencies including YAR in New York, Ogilvy in Frankfurt and BBDO in Berlin. Johannes has three kids – actually four, if you include his own agency “Glow” in Berlin Mitte.

On Judging:

New York Festivals: What cultural/social changes do you think will influence this year’s work?

Johannes Krempl: I expect (and hope) to see more political stuff, since everybody needs to get involved in saving the planet - brands, consumers, advertising people

New York Festivals: If you were to participate on the Grand Jury ten or fifteen years from now, what changes would you expect to see regarding the work?

Johannes Krempl: It would all be moving images, it would all be VR, and only readable with my implant chip. 

New York Festivals: What are your personal criteria for choosing award-winning work? 

Johannes Krempl: Does it question my beliefs about design, copy, film or life? 

New York Festivals: When judging, what trends do you hope will fade away, and what “old school” trends do you hope will make a resurgence?

Johannes Krempl: I pray that influencer marketing is deceasing fast.

Johannes Krempl: People are nosey. 

What’s the single best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?

Johannes Krempl: Don´t make advertising. Make something interesting.

Where do you see ads showing up in the future that we don’t have now?

Johannes Krempl: In your dreams. 


On Life: 

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

Johannes Krempl: Berlin. Oops - that´s where I do live!

Favorite music album of all-time?

Johannes Krempl: There is never an all-time…. People are nosey. Me too.
