Cristobal Amthauer is a Digital Creative with Cheil Worldwide in Chile. He brings more than 10 years creative advertising experience to the Grand Jury. Cristobal has worked at FCB Mayo and Raya agencies, which have been named as Digital agencies of the year in Chile. Throughout is career he has created major campaigns for prominent brands like Peugeot, Samsung, Axe, Nestlé, among others. 

On Judging:

New York Festivals: What do you expect to learn this year from judging and what do you hope to bring back to your creative team?

Critstobal Amthauer: My main interest is about learning to identify an ideas real potential and the influence they can reach in people’s life. In our job is pretty important to be aware of new shapes ideas are getting in a global level and how some of them change market rules.

New York Festivals: What cultural/social changes do you think will influence this year’s work?

Critstobal Amthauer: I hope creativity stays focused especially on gender equality, climate change and defense of human rights. 

New York Festivals: What are your personal criteria for choosing award-winning work? 

Critstobal Amthauer: First of all, it has to make me feel something, then I pay attention to the objective, its influence on people behavior and its manufacture. 

On Advertising: 

New York Festivals: In 3 words or less, what do you think about 6 second commercials?

Critstobal Amthauer: Surrender. Amaze.

New York Festivals: What was the first ad you saw that made you say “wow!” and got you on the track to a career in advertising?

Critstobal Amthauer: Bostezos – Agulla & Baccetti

Critstobal Amthauer: Making, failing and learning.

New York Festivals: What’s the single best piece of career advice you’ve ever received?

Critstobal Amthauer: Actions are better than words.

New York Festivals: Who gave you your big break in advertising? 

Critstobal Amthauer: Andrés Díaz. He believed in my capacity of team leading and he never hesitated to trust in me. 

New York Festivals: Did/do you have a mentor and what have you learned from them?

Critstobal Amthauer: There is more than just one. I knew an inspirational person in every single agency I have worked for. I learned from all of them that you can achieve a job well done, always being humble and working hard.

New York Festivals: What do you personally do to fan the creative flames?

Critstobal Amthauer: Walking and watching around for long periods of time.
