Creative Group Head, Colenso BBDO, New Zealand
Maria began her career at Colenso BBDO, Auckland where she won six Cannes Lions in her first six years as an Art Director. Prior to being a creative, she was Head of Colenso’s Design Department.
After Colenso BBDO she spent three cold years at TAXI in Toronto where she was an integral part of helping McCain Foods replace their preservatives and additives with natural alternatives. Now, after eight years away she’s back at Colenso BBDO and the cleaner Nani still remembers her name.
She has a passion for large ideas which has seen her create a treehouse restaurant for Yellow - halfway up a redwood tree, an in-flight fashion show for Air New Zealand - taking two years to receive civil aviation approval, wrap a New York water tower in 50 kilometres of yarn for D&AD’s call for entries and spend four weeks in an RV travelling from New York to Los Angeles to film the music of America on a smartphone – demonstrating the roaming capabilities of a local Telco.
Her work has been recognized at all major award shows including Cannes, D&AD, The One Show, Clio, Spikes and numerous local shows.
